The symphonies milanesi, unique among Zingarelli’s symphonies because they are in three movements, were given their name by the American musicologist Rey Longyear because of the place where they are kept: the Milan Conservatory. Composed around 1780 in the Central European style, they reflect the stylistic changes of the era through the purposeful, dramatic use of minor harmonies as a particular means of expression. This first CD in collaboration with the Atalanta Fugiens Orchestra and Vanni Moretto aims to continue the incomplete series of recordings by the Milan Symphony Archive previously released for Deutsche Harmonia Mundi. |
