Reviews FonoForum 12/10: “Schubert’s Octet in F major surpasses everything one would expect in a chamber music setting. The composer captures an entire world here: Tragic, idyllic, eerie, comfortable, and again and again a touch of wistful melancholy runs through the work. All of this is phenomenally brought to life in the recording, made last year in Heimbach at Lars Vogt’s ‘Spannungen’ festival, which brought together a number of well-known soloists, such as violinist Isabelle van Keulen, bassoonist Dag Jensen, and clarinetist and composer Jörg Wid mann.it is enormously exciting to follow what each of them brings in terms of their own color and imagination – and yet everything blends into a wonderfully light and transparent overall sound. The concurring idea of the gesture of the work binds the soloists into unity.” |
