Sir Arnold Bax: Four Orchestral Pieces & Phantasy

Sir Andrew Davis is among the most distinguished interpreters of British music today and here, performing with the BBC Philharmonic, he turns to the works of Sir Arnold Bax (1883-1953). Philip Dukes (‘Great Britain’s most outstanding viola player’ – The Times, UK) is the soloist in the passionately lyrical Phantasy for Viola and Orchestra heard on this recording alongside the Overture, Elegy and Rondo and the Four Orchestral Pieces, recorded here in its original arrangement for the first time. This disc marks the completion of Chandos’s long project to record Bax’s complete orchestral music.
