The composer Paul Dukas was a meticulous perfectionist and was known for abandoning many of his musical ventures, resulting in a relatively limited number of published works. His first major work appeared in 1897: L’Apprenti sorcier, a symphonic poem which came to great fame in 1940 through the Walt Disney film Fantasia. This collection captures the essence of his work in groundbreaking interpretations by prominent artists, including one of his pupils, the eminent pianist, chamber musician, composer and teacher Jean Hubeau. Reviews “Armin Jordan and the orchestra achieve the always differentiated, fibrous sound excellently, even in the tutti and brass fortissimo; the architecture of the symphony is worked out without any Teutonic pressure. …The sound engineering adapts to all this in a congenial way.” (FonoForum) |
