*digitally remastered in 1973, Atlantic Records began its second recording period with Mingus, which resulted in seven studio albums. The story of a new phase in Mingus’ music – his final phase – begins with the recordings in this box set. All configurations of the album, which contains his entire 1970s output for Atlantic Records, include previously unreleased outtakes of “Big Alice,” “The Call” and “Music For Todo Modo.” There is also an additional set of takes from “Big Alice” and “The Call” on an outtakes disc exclusive to the vinyl format. The set includes newly remastered versions of all seven studio albums Mingus recorded for Atlantic in the 1970s. The LP and CD versions include “Mingus Moves” (1973), “Changes One” (1974), “Changes Two” (1974), “Three or Four Shades of Blues” (1977), “Cumbia & Jazz Fusion” (1977), “Me, Myself an Eye” (1979) and “Something Like a Bird” (1979). “Changes” comes with an illustrated booklet detailing the final years of Mingus’ music with extensive liner notes by Andrew Homzy, a musician, arranger, jazz scholar and Grammy® Award nominee. Five previously unreleased recordings are included in the new collection. The CD version includes three outtakes, “Big Alice,” “The Call,” and “Music for ‘Todo Modo.'” The LP version includes these recordings plus additional unreleased takes of “Big Alice” and “The Call,” which are exclusive to the vinyl set. |
