Poulenc: Sonatas With Piano

This new CD is May’s third album on paladino, on which she plays works by Francis Poulenc. She presents three sonatas including the piano, namely the ones for cello, clarinet and oboe. The recording also includes the Elegy for Horn, and the Bagatelle for Violin and Piano. The clarinet and oboe sonatas as well as the Elegy for Horn and Piano display an integral character trait in Francis Poulenc’s later works: They are characterized by an equilibrium of their “inner economy”. It is precisely this character trait that has Poulenc positioned close to his highly revered Mozart and thereby, also to the late Ravel.
