Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 Eroica & Coriolan Overture – Ivan Fischer

Iván Fischer continues his cycle of Beethoven’s symphonies with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and releases the Symphony No. 3 “Eroica” in combination with the Coriolan Overture. These warhorses of the symphonic repertoire show that Beethoven’s writing is not only dramatic but also deeply lyrical. Fischer took a particularly long time to record the cycle, initially insisting on performing and touring the music with his excellent orchestra before deciding on a studio recording. The releases to date include Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 and have been highly praised, with The Guardian writing: “The performance of the Seventh is without question one of the best ever recorded. Utterly captivating.”
