Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672), the first world-class German composer, was given a significant sound monument with the complete recording of his work! With 20 episodes on a total of 28 CDs, Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Dresdner Kammerchor have recorded Schütz’s complex œuvre in its entirety for the first time.

The complete recording has been recognized by various awards: in 2020 it received the Opus Klassik in the category “Editorial Achievement of the Year”. In 2019, the recording of the St. John Passion was awarded the Annual Prize of the German Record Critics on behalf of the project of the complete recording.

The ambitious project of a complete Schütz recording began in 2009 as part of an intensive cooperation between Prof. Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Carus publishers Günter and Dr. Johannes Graulich. The basis was the scholarly score of the Stuttgart Schütz Edition, the complete edition published by Carus. In the following years the recording was made in close cooperation with many Schütz specialists, such as Prof. Dr. Werner Breig, Prof. Dr. Michael Heinemann, Ludger Rémy, Dr. Uwe Wolf and Dr. Helmut Lauterwasser. With this complete recording, all 20 episodes now appear in one box. Schütz’s wonderful music can thus be experienced in all its many facets for the first time in an excellent recording. Prof. Hans-Christoph Rademann on the recording: “I feel deep gratitude that we have managed to complete such a large project. On the other hand, I feel enormously enriched – as I am sure all musicians do – because Schütz’s music bears witness to the greatest mastery. The designation ‘father of German music’ is absolutely justified. Schütz is able to express an enormous amount with his music and is, so to speak, an ‘illuminator’ of the word – with powerful musical images. Painting and music move together in close quarters; one learns, as it were, to see with one’s ears.”
