Just in time for his 80th birthday in November, this much-lauded recording of Daniel Barenboim’s interpretation of the Beethoven piano concertos is being reissued In “Barenboim Plays Beethoven’s Piano Concertos” two musical masterminds meet. This live recording from the renowned Ruhr Piano Festival in May 2007 reflects both a very individual and special reading of Beethoven’s music and the artist’s lifelong devotion to the composer Daniel Barenboim is one of the most prolific and distinguished artists performing on international stages; Beethoven’s masterpieces are an important part of his repertoire, both as a conductor and as a pianist. Barenboim, who conducts and plays at the same time, chose his orchestra for this concert, the Staatskapelle Berlin, which he holds in high esteem for its exceptional, dark and warm sound. With a tradition dating back to 1570, the Staatskapelle Berlin is one of the oldest orchestras in the world. |
