It has already been sung about many times, many musical masterpieces have already been dedicated to it: New York. In 2016, the U.S. metropolis found another admirer in Chinese pianist Lang Lang. “New York Rhapsody” is the name of his ten-song homage. This is a very special crossover album. Classical music meets pop, jazz and film music, Lang Lang meets the “who’s who” of the American music world. These include singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, soul and R’n’B singer Andra Dey, jazz legend Herbie Hancock, soul newcomer Kandace Springs, R’n’B singer Lisa Fischer, crossover violinist Lindsey Stirling and many more. Together they have reinterpreted and partly rearranged some songs for “New York Rhapsody”, which are thematically connected to the city of New York. Alicia Key’s “Empire State of Mind,” Don Henley’s “New York Minute,” songs from the films “Spiderman” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” or Gershwin’s famous “Rhapsody in Blue” in a special version for two pianos – the selection on “New York Rhapsody” is more than varied. With “New York Rhapsody,” star pianist Lang Lang and his guests have succeeded in 2016 in creating a very special and, above all, multifaceted declaration of love for the city of New York. |
