Ray Barretto was born in Brooklyn in 1929 to Puerto Rican parents. He is considered an outstanding Latin jazz percussionist as well as a central conga player in salsa. In his career, Barretto worked for Lou Donaldson, Gene Ammons, Cannonball Adderley, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Zawinul and Dizzy Gillespie, as well as being a member of the famous Fania All Stars.

in 1989 he received a Grammy with the Cuban salsa singer Celia Cruz for the song “Ritmo en el Corazon”. Ray Barretto died in 2006 as a result of pneumonia. “Indestructible” was released in 1973 by the legendary label Fania. It is precisely there that the remastered reissue of this salsa classic is released. After Fania had helped Salsa to international reputation in the 1970s, it had become quiet around the label in the 1990s.

But after V2 took over the entire stock a few years ago and rediscovered most of the master tapes that were thought to be lost, selected program highlights are now being reissued – in contemporary sound quality. This undoubtedly includes the album “Indestructible”, which mixes swing, Latin and African rhythms into a fantastically grooving salsa in a unique and powerful way.
