Tony Williams was not even 20 years old when he recorded his second solo album for Blue Note under the title “Spring” in August 1965. And as with his debut album “Life Time”, the drummer, who was also a member of Miles Davis’ second big quintet at the time, once again presented exclusively his own compositions, which offered him and his prominent partners a wide field for adventurous voyages of discovery.

Pianist Cecil Taylor did not offer easy listening in 1966 on “Unit Structures,” his first of only two albums for Blue Note. The music magazine Pitchfork nevertheless included it in its list of the “200 best albums of the 1960s” in 2017, describing it as “one of the most intense of the early free jazz albums”.

Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition: Stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
