This live recording of Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Flavius Bertaridus” is a special rarity: The performance at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik was frenetically celebrated by audience and press “You wouldn’t want to miss a single scene, an aria,” writes the Neue Zürcher Zeitung about di Marchi’s spectacular interpretation with orchestra and choir of the Academia Montis Regalis. The opera tells a story of great topicality: the decline of a tyrant reminiscent of modern dictators like Ghadaffi Love, lust and intrigue: The opera Seria, first performed since its premiere at the Gänsemarkt in Hamburg in 1729, can confidently be described as a baroque soap opera. Now “Flavius Bertaridus” can be experienced as a rousing recording of the Innsbruck performance on CD. The opera is consistently cast with fantastic singers such as Maite Beaumont, Ann-Beth Solvang and Nina Bernsteiner. |
