Even more than a quarter of a century after her death, Tatiana Nikolayeva (1924-1993) remains a legend among Soviet-era pianists. Even though she possessed a stupendous pianistic technique that allowed her to master even the most demanding works brilliantly, it was ultimately her interpretations of Bach, including the present recording of the Goldberg Variations from 1970, that made her world-famous.
