Following the Reformation in the 16th century, Geneva became a widely respected intellectual and religious centre. And the city attracted musicians from all over Europe, not least because of its location at the crossroads of European main roads. In the middle of the 17th century, amateurs, travelling musicians and nobles came together in “concerts de musique”.

In 1717 this led to the foundation of a musical society by 40 young men of the Geneva Society, which found its home in the Stadthalle. Geneva soon had an orchestra and the opportunity to perform operas. At the end of the century, there were initiatives to create music schools and even to reinstate organs in the churches.

This double album presents the work of three musicians who had a decisive influence on the musical life of this pulsating city in the 18th century.
