The Fryderyk Chopin Institute has already released four albums of the pianist and conductor Howard Shelley with compositions by Fryderyk Chopin, Franciszek Lessel and Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński. The following album continues the path of interpretation of Polish composers’ music. This time, we will hear Shelley playing the brilliant-style Piano Concerto in E major No. 1 by Władysław Krogulski, referred to as “Polish Mozart”. On the album, there is also Adagio et rondeau a la polonaise in E flat major Op. 9 for piano with the accompaniment of the orchestra by Franciszek Lessel, which can be seen as a prototype of Chopin’s Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante Op. 22. The album was recorded in the Witold Lutosawski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio. |
