The current recording release is comprised of chamber music compositions by Dimitris Dragatakis which, apart from Sonata no.1 for violin and piano, were until now absent from Hellenic discography. The chosen works show Dragatakis’ compositional development from his youthful years up to his mature period.

Starting with Sonata no.1 for violin and piano (1958) and ending with Quartet no. 6 for violin, oboe, viola and violoncello (1999), it is possible to trace the evolutionary stages of the composer’s music and the crystallization of the elements that characterize his mature compositions: free atonality, modal elements, simple structures, plainness in thematic ideas and short repeated rhythmical patterns.
