Evidence of God – The Symphonist Heinz Winbeck For a long time Heinz Winbeck was only known to initiates as a solitary composer. This changed, of course, in 1984, when he made critics and audiences sensitive with the premiere of his First Symphony. His scores can hardly be assigned to any “╗Schule”, they do not subordinate themselves to any dogmas or style. Rather, he allows himself to be a subjective composer.

Winbeck studied from 1967 at the Musikhochschule Munich with Harald Genzmer and Günter Bialas. In the 1970s he was, among other things, Kapellmeister in Ingolstadt and received a teaching position at the Musikhochschule München in 1980. In 1988 he was finally appointed professor of composition in Würzburg. Intense, exciting and uncompromising – this is how the orchestral work of the composer can be described. Today, he must be counted among the most interesting symphonic composers of our time, as he revived the traditional form of the symphony, long declared dead by the avant-garde, with inner truthfulness, existential urgency and technical sovereignty.

He wrote the first three symphonies from 1983 onwards over a period of only six years. Not only in Europe, but also in the USA his works were performed with great success. The symphonic work is a logical and honest continuation of the thoughts and traditions of Bruckner and Mahler. Like the latter, Winbeck also dealt in his works with the core questions of existence – life, death and consequently also religion: “All my symphonies are about this and about the question where we come from and where we go. Music is a proof of God – the strongest one I know”.

With this complete edition, all five symphonies will be published in one edition for the first time – interpreted by internationally renowned soloists, conductors, choirs and orchestras – and thus audible and perceptible to a wide audience on CD.
