A tradition of over 125 years rests on their shoulders, and their orchestra enjoys an international reputation as one of the best in the world: the members of the Berlin Philharmonic can justifiably claim to have climbed to the pinnacle of the musical profession. One of the orchestra’s mainstays is the cultivation of chamber music in the many associations that have developed within the orchestra over the decades. Recently, these chamber music activities have even been given their own label with the evocative name Phil. harmonie

Ensemble Berlin, Berliner Barock Solisten, Philharmonisches Streichsextett Berlin are some of the groups that have formed over the years in which “the Berliners” have delighted and gifted themselves and their audiences with chamber music. As early as the 1970s, the 12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic had a resounding success with a long-playing record that brought together original compositions for the unusual ensemble; in the meantime, other chamber music groups of the Berlin Philharmonic have also presented their own record productions. It was a coincidence that brought together Christoph Hartmann, oboist in the Ensemble Berlin, and the music manager Ulli Blobel, who had already caused a sensation with his “jazzwerkstatt Berlin-Brandenburg” and its own label. The idea of a “klassikwerkstatt” and the label Phil. harmonie was quickly born

All productions of Phil. harmonie are created in connection with concert programmes and truly whet the appetite for more!
