The Georgian baritone George Gagnidze, described by the American opera magazine “Opera Now” as the gentle bear of a man, has been singing the most renowned opera characters on the world’s stages for years. On his long-awaited debut album he now presents – among other parade roles – such diverse characters as that of the jealous and murderous Count Luna (Il trovatore), the vengeful Renato (Un ballo in maschera), the upright faithful friend Posa (Don Carlos), nebuchadnezzar begging the God of the Jews for mercy (Nabucco) and – outside the Verdi cosmos – Andrea Chénier’s revolutionary colleague Gérard, Mozart’s notorious seducer Don Giovanni and Wagner’s Wolfram pining for the love of Elisabeth (Tannhäuser). He will be accompanied by the Staatskapelle Weimar conducted by Stefan Solyom. |
