In the label’s early years, one of its main focuses was vocal music, with the company initially concentrating on opera rarities and, from the mid-1980s onwards, also on band takeovers of historical recordings. ORFEO also relied on big names for its own productions, while at the same time ORFEO developed into a talent factory by supporting young artists over the years. On the present 10 CD box set “Legendary Pianists” to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ORFEO label, nine pianists are represented in historical and more recent recordings from the 1950s to the 2000s. |
