“The music of Fauré unfolds its pull only gradually and very subtly. With a gentle magic that can be addictive.” (NDR Kultur) “One can enjoy the extremely atmospheric and tasteful music of the people of Basel.” (Rondo) – These are just a few of the reviews for the highly praised recording series “The Secret Fauré” by the Basel Symphony Orchestra under Ivor Bolton. On its third album, the orchestra presents seldom-heard sacred vocal works by Gabriel Fauré, as well as his famous Requiem in a new edition: this is the first version from 1900, which takes into account not only the first edition of the “symphonic version” of the Requiem, but also the historical orchestral material. In addition, some instrumental passages that had been forgotten up to that time have been revived. “The Secret Fauré 3” also includes the world premiere recording of “La Passion” – the religiously inspired work for mixed choir and orchestra remained unreleased until 1999. In addition to Fauré’s “Cantique de Jean Racine”, with which he won a first prize in composition in 1865, the album includes the “Messe des pêcheurs” for women’s choir and chamber orchestra from 1881 and the psalm setting “Super flumina babylonis”. The vocal works are all performed by renowned interpreters: the award-winning Balthasar Neumann Choir, soprano Katja Stuber and baritone Benjamin Appl. “In this way, one can let oneself fall into the noble beauty of the treasures so masterfully performed by the Basel musicians, and yet there is always a subliminal restlessness (Concerti)
