With her new recording “Night Music” recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger presents with the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca the different fascinating facets of the night with different European night music. Music by Antonio Vivaldi is the starting point for the journey through the night. Around his works, the Concerto RV 104 “La Notte”, the Concerto RV 270 “Il Riposo” (The Silence), the opulent opening symphony to his Serenata “La Senna Festeggiante” and the shadowy Concerto in C minor RV 441, Oberlinger’s refined dramaturgy is ranked – every work by Vivaldi is preceded by a nightly prelude. Songs, diminutions, motets, madrigals, sommeliers and chaconnas from Spain, the Netherlands, France, England, Italy, Germany and Austria act as bridges and interludes between Vivaldi’s works (Hotteterre, Biber, Lully, van Eyck and others). The result is a colourful musical kaleidoscope of very different European night music. They tell of rushing celebrations, nocturnal love dramas and longings, tender lullabies, ghosts, night birds or the holiest of all nights. These include rarities such as the Sephardic lullaby “Nani Nani” from medieval Spain, a song by Frate Gerardo from the Veneto of the 16th century “L’altra nocte m’insomniava”, Ignaz Biber’s Ciaconna from his famous night watchman serenade or the enchanting “Sommeil”, a sleep scene from Jean-Baptiste Lully’s tragédie mis en musique “Atys”. For her journey through the night Dorothee Oberlinger will again be accompanied by the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca – the specialist for the Venetian repertoire, with whom she has already recorded the bestseller album “Flauto Veneziano”. A special feature is the “encore” at the end of the album: Thelonious Monk’s famous timeless jazz standard “Round Midnight” in an arrangement by Luigi Mangiocavallo (1959*), which was created for the Sonatori, concludes this fascinating night album.
