In November 2021, the conductor now celebrated the 20th anniversary of her ensemble with two charity concerts in Berlin and Paris. The two anniversary concerts with excerpts from baroque operas by Handel, Rameau, Purcell, Vivaldi and Campra now appear as a live recording on the album “20 ans – Une nouvelle fête Baroque!” Saying “A 20-year anniversary and 20 years of success deserve a proper celebration,” Emmanuelle Haïm gathered on stage a who’s who of the classical scene: more than twenty renowned soloists performed, including sopranos Natalie Dessay, Sandrine Piau and Sabine Devieilhe, tenors Michael Spyres and Rolando Villazón, and bass Andrea Mastroni. Haïm’s former mentor, Sir Simon Rattle, also took the opportunity to take the baton as a guest. The conducting style of the trained harpsichordist is based on the way early music is played. Emmanuelle Haïm explains it this way: “In baroque music, the role of the conductor is within the orchestra. He plays an instrument himself and is part of the music together with the other musicians. In Le Concert dʼAstrée, everyone speaks very openly – and I’m not the only one who says what’s being done.” Her way of working is also appreciated by major symphony orchestras. And so Emmanuelle Haïm has already conducted many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras and the London Symphony Orchestra. |
