In 1996 the music world listened up: A production of Verdi’s Don Carlos appeared in a French version that had received little attention until then and which the composer had written for the Paris Opera in 1867 – here in a live recording from the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, marked by the suspense of an extraordinary opera evening and a top-class cast. In addition to his celebrated Puccini recordings, tenor Roberto Alagna provided another highlight of his discography – alongside José van Dam, Thomas Hampson, Karita Mattila and Waltraud Meier. Antonio Pappano was a proven connoisseur of the Italian and French opera repertoires. |
