Musical family ties: The Moreaus play works by Dvorak and Korngold Moreau Edgar – Raphaëlle – David – Jérémie The exceptional young French cellist Edgar Moreau shines on this album together with his no less talented siblings – Raphaelle and David (violin) and Jérémie (piano). The programme includes the five Bagatelles op. 47 by Antonín Dvorak and the Suite op. 23 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. As David points out, works for the combination of two violins, cello and piano are rather unusual: “These are wonderful pieces that are rarely played, so this is an opportunity to put them in the spotlight”. When it comes to playing as a family, Edgar says, “There’s something that works almost instinctively,” while Raphaelle explains, “We don’t need to look at each other, and we breathe together in a certain way. There’s something very intimate about that”. The programme is rounded off by transcriptions of two popular arias from the operas Rusalka (Dvorak) and The Dead City (Korngold) – arranged for cello and piano. |
