Shostakovich: Violin Concertos

First time in the original version Shostakovich’s violin concertos are among the most important contributions to the genre in the 20th century repertoire. The outstanding Alina Ibragimova has recorded them for HYPERION, and in doing so she has come up with a highly interesting special feature: she has decided to play the beginning of the finale in the first concerto for the first time in the way it was originally conceived by the composer, but changed at the request of David Oistrach before the premiere. After the expressive Passacaglia with its extended solo cadenza, which leads attacca into the furious finale, Oistrakh had begged the composer for a short breather.
