Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Orchestra)William Steinberg (Conductor)

William Steinberg served for many years as principal conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. During this time, he shaped the orchestra into a world-renowned body of sound. During his tenure, he recorded not only the highly acclaimed Beethoven symphonies, but also the complete Brahms symphonies. The recordings of this edition took place between 1961 and 1965 for the Command Classics label. The cycle, released on individual albums at the time, was immediately praised by the press and was a great success. For this edition, the symphonies were carefully remastered from the original master tapes.
