Recorded in 1957, this Sonny Clark album is a real gem. The accompanying rhythm section consists of bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones. Together they cover jazz or bop standards! The very rhythmic hard bop pianist Sonny Clark was bursting with creativity when he began his flight of fancy at Blue Note in 1957. Within three months he recorded three terrific albums for the label with different all-star line-ups. For “Sonny Clark Trio” he had put together a mix of bebop classics and standards and borrowed the rhythm section from the Miles Davis Quintet of the time; bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones. Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: stereo, produced by Joe Harley, mastered entirely in analog by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy tip-on gatefold, padded inner sleeve. |
