In 1957, Sonny Rollins was one of the first saxophonists (if not the first ever) to perform with a trio without harmony instruments. One of the pioneering albums in this then still absolutely unusual line-up with sax, bass and drums was “A Night At The Village Vanguard”. It was not until 1976 that a double vinyl album was released under the title “More From The Vanguard” with the remaining recordings of the three sets that Rollins had played with two different trios on the afternoon and evening of November 3, 1957. Now all the recordings, mastered from the original tapes for the first time (!), are being reissued in the “Tone Poet” series on 2 CDs or three LPs. Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Mono, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog mastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy triple gatefold tip-on sleeve, padded inner sleeves. |
