“Third Season” – recorded back in 1967 but not released for the first time until 1980 – is one of the lesser-known albums by hard bop tenorist Hank Mobley. He presents himself here with a rather unusual but consistently excellent septet line-up and a program of originals whose stylistic spectrum ranges from hard bop to modal jazz and soul jazz to bossa nova.
