Hardly any other blue note artist of the 1960s has been as productive as tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, who released one brilliant album after another back then. One of the absolute best recordings of that time is the album “No Room For Squares”, on which Mobley went to the bluesy roots of hardbop. It was created with two differently scored but equally top-class quintets during two sessions in March and October 1963, during which six captivating originals by Mobley and trumpeter Lee Morgan were captured for eternity. Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition: stereo, all analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal. |
