On his first two albums for Blue Note at the end of the 1960s, former Coltrane drummer Elvin Jones presented himself in a piano-less trio format. On the third album “Poly-Currents”, he once again dispensed with a pianist, but this time expanded the sound palette by adding several saxophonists/flutists and a percussionist. “Advanced modal hard bop from musicians who are all in top form”, said Scott Yanow at AllMusic and gave the album 4.5 stars. Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog mastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy deluxe tip-on sleeve, padded inner sleeve. |
