Drummer Roy Haynes unfortunately recorded only one album for Bob Thiele’s label Impulse! Records. But this album had it all! The line-up was breathtaking, the repertoire a successful mix of the leader’s own compositions and originally prepared standards. With his crisp snare drum rolls, which were as fast as machine gun salvos, Haynes also inspired quite a few rock drummers. He also owed his nickname “Snap Crackle” to this unique sound, to which he humorously alludes here in a piece of the same name.
