Passionnement: ‘L’amour est un oiseau rebelle’
Véronique Gens (Soprano), Etienne Dupuis (Baritone), Éric Huchet (Tenor), Nicole Car (Soprano), Chantal Santon Jeffrey (Soprano), Armando Noguera (Baritone)
The music of the French conductor and composer André Messager is little known in Germany, not least because the much-vaunted Franco-German hereditary enmity in the 19th and early 20th centuries made the Rhine much wider than the English Channel and even the Atlantic in terms of cultural exchange. In Paris, London and even on Broadway, however, Messager’s works were performed with great success. The music is distinguished by its melodic invention, supported by solid compositional craftsmanship and typically French elegance and grace, making the author the last great exponent of French opérette. As the title suggests, this is a passionate love story which, after some confusion, comes to a happy ending.
