Marcus Stäbler in FonoForum 07 / 14: “This production can be described as a reference recording.” The fact that the famous Italian opera composer Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) composed outstanding and perfectly formed sacred works in addition to such great operas as “The Barber of Seville” is proven by one of his most important late works: the Petite Messe Solenelle. In the unusual and rarely recorded scoring for 4 soloists, choir and piano and harmonium accompaniment, Rossini created a colorful and melodically varied mass setting shortly before his death, which is nevertheless strongly reminiscent of opera in its tonal language. With the Bavarian Radio Choir under chief conductor Peter Dijkstra and the piano duo Tal & Groethuysen, multiple Echo Klassik award-winners have now recorded this multi-faceted work together with the outstanding soloists Regula Mühlemann, Anke Vondung, Eric Cutler and Michael Volle as well as Max Hanft on the harmonium. Reviews “The renowned piano duo Tal & Groethuysen sets swinging impulses, the vocal quartet inspires with the most beautiful bel canto, the choir with famous phrasing.” (Audio, June 2014) |
