Edition Staatskapelle Dresden – Volume 29
Sir Colin Davis had been associated with the Staatskapelle since 1981, and in those years of profound change he proved himself not only a guest but a true friend of the orchestra, taking an active interest in its problems. In a time that was also temporarily without a leader, he felt jointly responsible for the stability of artistic quality and human cohesion. His way of making music, which gave the musicians great opportunities for development despite their ties to each other, to the music text and the baton, and which at the same time meant being “completely there for the cause”, inspired and activated everyone who was lucky enough to be at his side in a special way. It was only logical that the Staatskapelle appointed Sir Colin Davis as its honorary conductor in 1991.
