In the second half of the 18th century, Domenico Ferrari (1722-1780) was no stranger to fame. He was courted as a highly talented violin virtuoso as well as a gallant composer. As one of Giuseppe Tartini’s best pupils, he quickly made it to the Viennese and Württemberg courts in Stuttgart. After his debut in 1754 at the famous Concert Spirituel in Paris, he was granted the royal privilege of publishing his works in France, where he remained until his death. His op. 3 with 6 sonatas for violin and basso continuo presented on this CD was composed around 1760 and fascinates with a virtuoso sound language of late baroque and classical music. Artem Dzeganovskyi plays the baroque violin, Leonardo Gatti the baroque cello and Sonia Hrechorowicz is the harpsichordist.
