Mother of the opera of all operas
For E. T. A. Hoffmann, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni was nothing less than the “opera of all operas”. As early as 1669 Alessandro Melani created L’Empio punito, the first setting of the Don Juan material for Rome, thus in a sense the “mother of the opera of all operas”. This world premiere recording of Melani’s masterpiece on GLOSSA impresses with its outstanding cast of singers, which includes Raffaele Pe in the leading role (Acrimante), Raffaella Milanesi (Atamira), Roberta Invernizzi (Ipomene), Giorgio Celenza (Bibi) and Alberto Allegrezza (Delfa). Instrumental support is provided by the excellent orchestra Auser Musici under the direction of Carlo Ipata.
