Vendado es Amor, no es ciego (1744) is one of the most important and successful surviving stage works by José de Nebra. Instead of a morally acidic plot, as is usually the case in the baroque dramma per musica, the piece offers a clever plot about love and power, but also with loud mutual insults by the mythological figures involved. Nebra contributed colourful music (including a fandango!) with a varied series of virtuoso solo and ensemble numbers and choirs. Alberto Miguélez Rouco conducts a spirited solo sextet and the Ensemble Los Elementos in this world premiere recording for GLOSSA. |
