|Giovanni Battista Bononcini|
La conversione di Maddalena: Cor imbelle a due nemici
Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli (Soprano), Emanuela Galli (Soprano), Marta Fumagalli (Alto), Matteo Belloto (Bass)
Gabriele Palomba (Conductor)
At the height of his European fame, Giovanni Bononcini worked from 1698 to 1711 at the court of Emperor Leopold I and his successor Joseph I, who chose him as his favourite composer. La conversione di Maddalena was written for the Viennese court, which had new oratorios performed every week during the Lent without opera. Bononcini conjures up a wonderful score here, which offers astonishing variety and inexhaustible inventiveness. An immediate, deeply felt expressiveness, remarkable vocal demands and numerous nuances of timbre and harmony work together here to create a plastic profile for each figure.
