Berliner Philharmoniker, Philharmonia Orchestra
When the 25th anniversary of Herbert von Karajan’s death comes around on 16 July 2014, it will be an occasion to look back at the legacy of a conductor who was an ardent advocate of fonography. Karajan understood not only the concert hall but also his discography as a podium. All the more significant are the treasures that are now gradually being resurrected in the Official Remastered Edition
The box set Orchestral Spectaculars covers the decades from 1946 to 1960 – with many well-known highlights, but also with rather unexpected repertoire up to Roussel, Respighi, Kodály, Vaughan Williams, Bartók and Britten, which documents Karajan as a contemporary of the modern age.
