The 2000 year old Roman amphitheatre with its gigantic stage is one of the largest in the world and, with over 22,000 seats, undoubtedly also one of the most spectacular open-air venues! The revered “master of opera” Franco Zeffirelli, who died shortly before the premiere of Il Trovatore, created a legendary landscape with groups of giant armoured knights, a fortress that turns into a shining cathedral, a huge choir, horses, breathtaking fights: “Perhaps his best arena production (opera glasses). Anna Netrebko makes her eagerly awaited debut in the Arena di Verona in one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most popular operas. Alongside Netrebko as Leonora, baritone Luca Salsi as Count di Luna and Yusif Eyvazov, who returns to the Arena as his powerful opponent Manrico, will play. MET star Dolora Zajick as Azucena and the young up-and-coming Italian bass Riccardo Fassi as Ferrando complete the renowned ensemble.
