After two successful Aida productions by Italian director Franco Zeffirelli in the last decade, the historical fable can be experienced from February 2015 in an interpretation by Peter Stein. And it will be different, as the German star director and naturalised Italian promises: the story of two women who love a man is deliberately kept intimate, Stein says – in other words, “a very intimate Aida” in which fights and political intrigue take a back seat

Zubin Mehta, a musical legend, stands at the podium of the Orchestra of La Scala in Milan. As an opera conductor, he has been on the stages of all major opera houses since 1963 and is also honorary conductor of numerous orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Bavarian State Orchestra, with whom he performed in Srinagar, Kashmir, in September 2013, and the Staatskapelle Berlin. With his Aida conducting, the Bombay-born conductor will replace the US conductor Lorin Maazel, who died in July. (opera travel guide)
