Today it is one of the most popular operas ever, but the premiere of Madame Butterfly on 17 February 1904 was a fiasco, so Puccini immediately withdrew the work and revised it. Then, three months later, the premiere of the second version and: an overwhelming success! The final version of 1906 is the version of the opera we know today, which stands or falls with its title heroine. Raffaella Angeletti not only masters the vocal and emotional range, but also the development from girlish innocence to tragic grandeur. The neoclassical ambience of the Arena Sferisterio of 1829 provides a splendid open-air setting for this extraordinarily elegant production.
