Robert Schumann called Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy the “Mozart of the 19th century”. That this statement was not taken from thin air is shown above all by the three youth works that Mendelssohn composed here between the ages of eleven and fifteen. An undreamt-of liveliness and purity floats and vibrates in this chamber music. Already full of premonitions, these compositions are an overture to the coming masterpieces, from the octet, the violin concerto to the summer night’s dream … one listens to the music like the dreamer of Salomon Gessner on the cover. Ana Chumachenco, Hariolf Schlichtig, Eduard Brunner and Adrian Oetiker find the necessary cautious sound language for these cheerful and contemplative works by the very young composer. |
