Mainly based on folk tunes, these works are tinged with the exotic but are overall extremely tuneful, lively and lyrical, Romantic in nature and a good match for the folk dance pieces of Brahms, Dvorak etc. Exceptionally fine music regardless of the country of origin. Armenian/Canadian pianist and Heather Tuach, cellist with the Fitzwilliam Quartet, are the ideal interpreters. These works are a valuable discovery indeed. Apart from the Cello Sonata by Haro Stepanian, the works have been arranged by Geronty Talalyan. Reviews MusicWeb International “There is a commonality in the music throughout the disc. One could easily believe that all of it was by the same composer but this is not meant in any way as a disparaging comment…[the] playing mirrors their commitment to the project for it shows in every note. |
