The production of the then Cologne opera director Michael Hampe at the Schwetzingen Festival in 1988 is characterized by a very cheerful movement direction.

Gioachino Rossini: Il turco in Italia

Cesare Lievi staged his version of Rossini’s opera Il turco in Italia for Zurich Opera House in 2002. Absurd theatre with heart and countless ideas in brightly coloured, fantastic spaces by Tullio Pericoli.

The first-class cast of the production at the Zurich Opera House, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, revolves around Rodney Gilfry and Cecilia Bartoli as Donna Elvira: with volcanic temperament, full of passion and with vocal steel, she proves her outstanding stage presence.
