In 1771, Luchesi had become Kapellmeister in Bonn (and remained so until his death) and in this function he became Beethoven’s teacher. For a long time, the Venetian-born composer was underestimated in his importance for the development of Viennese Classicism. Incidentally, Luchesi had sent the young Mozart a copy of the concerto for piano and strings recorded here in the year he took office in Bonn. Mozart was so impressed by it that he wrote a cadenza for it, as Roberto Plano found out in astute detective work.
