By the end of World War II, Londoner Alec Rowley had composed a considerable number of works and achieved notoriety. In the decade before, he had made a name for himself as a pianist and radio presenter, as well as a music writer In addition, he was responsible for the music of St. Margaret’s, Westminster, and was a professor at Trinity College of Music. He played several times with the London Symphony Orchestra under Henry Wood, including at the 1940 Proms. Music for piano and organ occupies an important place in Rowley’s oeuvre, but he also wrote songs, choral and chamber music. This is the first time a recording of only piano works has appeared. |
